The Long Pink Table — August 23, 2026

Hi friends,

We've been riding our bikes so much this summer. We rode up onto Swarthmore campus and the boys wanted to check out the McCabe Library. We walked through the stacks for an hour or so — they absolutely loved it. Sat in every chair, up and down the stairs — I could see their little brains figuring out where they would choose to sit and study if they went there.

We happened upon the Color Room on the 2nd floor. I wish I had taken my phone with me for photos… it was full of color swatches pegged on the wall that you could move around, small bottles of pigment powders next to natural stones in vibrant colors. Lots of books on color theory, too. Thinking I'll go back to plan a quilt sometime.

I've had a quiet week at home with the boys while Jon's been away.

The Baraka cardigan is getting closer — we're at the slow part of back and forth. It will have to wait until we're back from Maine. I don't feel like bringing a giant sweater with me on the trip.

So I've cast on something small. Whenever we go to New England, for whatever reason, I like to bring a tiny project. The past few years it's been the tiny knitted hearts that are perfect for beach knitting. This year I'm knitting ducks! There are so many knitted birds popping into my feed, I just picked one and went with it. How many do you think I can complete in a week? It took me two evenings to get this far.

Around Delco This Week

• Illumination 250 Festival — Saturday the 29th at Haverford High School. Live music and food, and they finish with a lighted drone show.
• Scott Arboretum — the gardens at Swarthmore College are free and open to anyone who walks in. Good for a wander when you need one.
• Community Arts Center — 414 Plush Mill Road in Wallingford. Exhibits, classes, and the Friday Night Live concerts.
• Tyler Arboretum — 515 Painter Road, open 9 to 4 daily. Treehouses, the meadow maze, and a lot of walking.
• Media Farmers Market — today, 10 to 1, on Edgmont Street between Front and State. Sundays through November 22nd, and parking is free.
• Dining Under the Stars — State Street closes Wednesday evenings through September 30th.
