Sewing 206: Exploration of Garment Sewing - Pants

Sewing 206: Exploration of Garment Sewing - Pants

Continue (or begin!) your garment sewing journey by sewing simple elastic waist pants using cotton, cotton lawn, or linen.  Learn to trace and cut the pattern, sew the pieces together, and finish the seams and edges. This pant is an excellent addition to your spring and summer wardrobe and can be worn with the top we previously made. You don't have to have taken the top class to register for this class.

Please use the sizing chart here to find your size.

This class will meet for two 2-hour sessions.

Prior experience: Completion of a beginner sewing class or Machine Mastery for Adults.

Required materials:

In order to create the best possible results for your garment you will need to pre-purchase your fabric and have it washed, dried, and ironed before the first class.

Attached is a copy of the sizing chart.  Please select the size based on your measurements and purchase the required fabric.  If you have any questions about the amount of fabric you need, anyone in the shop will be able to help you. We will be using cotton fabric for your pants. This will make your first garment easier to sew and eliminate frustration.

Fabric requirements:  Sizes XS-XL requires fabric at least 43" wide.  Larger sizes will need 52" fabric.

XS - L      2 3/4 yards of fabric
XL - 2X    3 yards of fabric

3X - 5X    3 1/4 yards of fabric

  • for all sizes you will need 1 1/2 yards of 3/4" non-roll elastic
  • Pattern paper for tracing your pattern

You must have a copy of "The Act of Sewing" by Sonya Philip which can be purchased in the shop.  We will use this book for future garment classes. The book includes sizes from XS to 5X.

Class materials purchased at Homesewn will receive a 15% discount.
