Sewing 110: Sewing with Knits - Kids Pocket Shorts - Adult Class

Get your kid's wardrobe ready for summer weather by sewing some knit shorts for warmer weather! This simple sew features front pockets, and waistband with optional drawstring.

Participants will learn the basics of sewing with knits including using a serger, sewing with a stretch stitch on your machine, and how to hem with knits. 

Skill level of participants - beginner, no previous serger experience needed, but must know the basics of operating a sewing machine. 

Number of sessions - one 3-hour session

Pattern location: 

• Sizes 0- 6T Brindille & Twig - Pocket Shorts
• Sizes 6-14 Brindille & Twig - Summer Shorts

Materials:

Knit fabric for the legs

• 1/4 yard for sizes 0-3M to 9-12M,
• 1/2 yards for sizes 12-18M to 5-6T
• 1/2 yard for sizes 6 to 8
• 3/4 yard for sizes 10 to 14

Knit fabric for waistband - medium-weight, cotton/elastane blend jersey. A rib knit will work as well.

• 1/4 yard for all sizes

For sizes 0-6T: 1 yard of drawstring for the waist OR a 1" wide strip of knit fabric

For sizes 6-14: 1 1/4" Elastic
