Adults only - School of Sewing Course

Unlock your creativity and elevate your sewing skills in this hands-on course designed for adults eager to master sewing techniques through four exciting projects. Whether you're a beginner or looking to enhance your sewing knowledge, this course will guide you step-by-step in creating functional and stylish pieces. Over the duration of the course, you will complete four distinct projects that explore different aspects of sewing using the book "School of Sewing".

The cost of the class includes the book "School of Sewing".  Please come to the first class with the materials for the pillowcase and apron.  

Projects:

1. Pillowcase - learn to make a pillowcase using the "burrito" method enclosing all raw edges, add a fabric accent, and construct a french seam.
2. String apron  - learn to create casings, add a pocket and make fabic ties
3. Zipper pouch - learn to sew a zipper onto a pouch and create boxed corners.
4. Tote bag - create a one-of-a-kind tote bag, quilt the fabric and add handles..

Throughout the course, you'll receive expert guidance on sewing machine operation, fabric types, and troubleshooting, all while working on projects that build confidence and creative expression. By the end of the course, you'll have four beautiful, functional items that showcase your new skills.

Prerequisite: Basic knowledge of sewing or prior experience with a sewing machine or Sewing 101.

Materials Needed: 

Pillowcase

• 3/4 yard of cotton main fabric
• 1/4 yard of cotton cuff fabric
• 2" of cotton accent fabric

Apron

• 1 yard of cotton or lightweight canvas fabric for apron
• 1/2 yard of cotton or lightweight canvas for pocket and straps

Zipper pouch

• 1/4 yard or fat quarter of cotton or lightweight canvas outside pouch fabric
• 1/4 yard or fat quarter of cotton lining fabric
• 9" polyester zipper
• 1/2 yard of fusible interfacing (Pellon SP101)

Tote bag 

• Four 1/4 yards of coordinating fabric for outside of tote bag
• 3/4 yard of cotton lining fabric
• 2 yards fusible interfacing (Pellon SP101)
• 3/4 yards fusible batting
• 1/4 yard cotton strap fabric
