The Long Pink Table — July 31, 2026

Make something. The house is quiet and the yarn isn't going to knit itself.

Hi friends,

The kids are at my parents' this week and the itinerary they've reported back is unhinged in the best way: zip lining, a rated R movie, late-night swimming complete with anole and tree frog hunting. And the headline — Kit is learning to sew. First project is a weiner dog stuffie...the bun is next on the agenda. He's loving it which is thrilling to me.

A quiet house at the end of July makes my brain go straight to the holidays and how to decorate the shop. Will the giant bow make a triumphant return this year? Stay tuned!

Jon took me over to Lambertville to visit our old friend Roger at Goldsmiths — he made my engagement ring. The storefront looked like it's turning into something else and we just stood on the sidewalk, totally bummed. Then we rode our bikes down the canal and I remembered how sweet that little town is. I just kept thinking about how it would be the perfect spot for a yarn shop.

— Joey

P.S. Leave a comment or email me — tell me the last thing you cast on with zero plan for how it ends. I'll go first: there's a scarf in my bag and I don't want to choose a midpoint.

Come By — We're Open
Corner of State & Olive in Media. Big teal windows, 14-foot pink table in the middle of the room. The chairs are open, so pull one out and stay a while.

Help sessions for knit and crochet circles run Monday and Thursday with Caryl — bring the project you've been quietly fighting with. No appointment, no pressure. Every other Sunday morning is knitting help with Jil. Coming soon: Tuesdays and Fridays, knitting help with Lauren. $10 per session, you can just show up. Now you have no excuse not to get busy!
What's On Our WIP List
One of mine, one for the holiday pile.
Joey's Night Lights shawl in progress
Night Lights, and no known endpoint
I'm well past the middle of the Night Lights shawl and nowhere near ready to start decreasing - it's so fun to watch the colors change and i'm really in a rhythm. How big will it get? Nobody can say. (And yes — it's by Andrea Mowry. I keep "correcting" myself to Drea Renee Knits, which is also her. Same person.)
Pattern: Night Lights by Drea Renee Knits
Squishy DK to knit along: Malabrigo Torzal $16
Sew your own fox or wolf class
Sew your own fox or wolf
Kit's stuffie has me thinking about softies for everyone. If you'd rather be walked through it, we run a class for exactly this — spend an afternoon with us and leave with a fox or a wolf of your own. A good one to do alongside a kid, too.

Trending in the Maker World
This week's vision board: baubles on knits — sparkle, beads, and a shameless early lean into the holidays.
I'm already thinking about sparkle — a little metallic thread, a few beads worked into a cuff. Holiday without going full tinsel. We'll have more sparkly things landing in the shop soon.
I keep a vision board for every trend I fall for.

A Few Things Bringing Us Joy
Watching: New seasons of Project Runway and Married at First Sight.
Reading: The Gospel According to Hobby Lobby by Michael Blanding. Hooked by page three.
Eating: With the kids away, dinner is a whole new experience!
Doing a little good: After the Lambertville thing, I'm feeling protective of the little storefronts. Buy one thing from an independent shop this month — the ones we love only stick around if we actually show up.
In the Background
Something very low key as I cast on my first test knit! Wish me luck as I will need to really be focused for this one. More to come next week.
Around Delco This Week

Live music at WaR3house 3 — The Swarthmore spot keeps a steady run of shows on the calendar. Grab a ticket, go hear something loud in a room that isn't your living room.

Free movie night in Media — Media runs a free outdoor movie once a month through October, popcorn included. Bring a chair. Check the date before you pack the car.

Chester Creek Trail — The trailhead just got a $375K refresh, and Phase 2 is finally underway to push the trail south. Good flat miles for a bike or a very slow walk with a coffee.

Friend of the Shop
One account worth a follow, every week.
@dressreformny — A secondhand reseller with real taste. She mends things in a way you haven't seen before, she'll dye a piece for you, and she keeps the good stuff out of the trash. I've bought from her more than once and never regretted it.

That's the week. See you at the pink table.
