Knitting - Intro to Cables

Cables are a popular technique used in many knitting patterns to create interlocking
turns and twists. Cables may look difficult or confusing, but once you try them, you will
see how easy they can be.

In this single 2 hour class you will learn to knit simple cables, using a fun, fast cabled
scarf as your class project. The scarf combined two basic cables; left twist and right
twist.We will talk about the structure of a cable stitch, how to read a cable pattern and
see what one looks like on a chart.

Yarn: Approx. 350 - 400 yards of worsted weight yarn (Malabrigo Rios is an excellent
Size 7 (4.5mm) or 8 (5mm) US needles
Cable needle or one double pointed needle in same size as regular needles
Removable stitch marker

You must be able to do the following without assistance:
Cast on
Bind off
Knit and purl in the same row.
Read a written knitting pattern.

Be sure to have your supplies and yarn wound, if necessary before the start of class.
